Also known as the chocolate truffle cake, choco lava cake is one of the most popular single serve desserts. This decadent dessert consists of a soft chocolate cake with a gooey or runny center. It is said that the molten chocolate cake was invented by the United States-based chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. However, a French chef claimed that the cake existed in France already. Choco lava cake was once a complex dish everyone wanted to master but now, there are several easy recipes on YouTube showing how to make it with just a couple of ingredients. The cake is usually served with chocolate sauce, some strawberries or dusting of sugar powder. Here is a simple recipe to make eggless choco lava cake by Upasana Shukla from Rajshri Food.
Ingredients:
30 grams of cocoa powder
65 grams of plain flour or maida
130 grams of castor sugar
100 ml of milk
50 ml of oil
100 ml of water
1/2 a teaspoon of instant coffee powder
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
1/2 a teaspoon of baking powder
1/4 teaspoon of baking soda
Method:
Start by sieving cocoa powder, maida, baking powder and baking soda together. Put these ingredients in a large bowl.
Add caster sugar to the bowl and mix well.
Take a separate bowl and mix instant coffee powder, vegetable oil, water, vanilla essence and milk.
Add the instant coffee and milk mixture to the plain flour mixture. Mix well to combine all the ingredients and form a batter. Make sure there are no lumps in the batter.
Take a ramekin bowl and grease it. Pour the batter into it.
Put three pieces of chocolate in the center of the batter and cover it up with the batter.
Place the ramekin in the oven and bake it for 12 to 15 minutes at 180 degree Celsius.
Once the cake is cooked, take it out of the oven and let it cool. Your molten chocolate lava cake is ready. Here is the video of the recipe.
