Women’s clothing company Topshop is feeling the heat online for selling a T-shirt that apparently isn’t friendly to vegans.
The baby pink ‘Vegan Dino’ T-Shirt sold on Topshop’s online store by clothing brand Tee & Cake features a dinosaur printed on the front with the word ‘vegan’ in capital letters underneath. While the look of the shirt itself is not causing the commotion, what’s printed on the label is.
The label attached to the inside of the collar features a cake recipe that includes two non-vegan friendly ingredients — “3 large eggs” and “16oz butter.”
Vegans have taken to social media to voice their displeasure over the non-vegan recipe.
“A possible jibe at vegans?? If so, shame on you,” tweeted one annoyed person.
“When @Topshop sell (sic) a vegan top and on the label it says eggs?” wrote another.
“Errrm? Butter? Eggs? Vegan? Nice one Topshop,” one person wrote on Facebook.
Despite the snafu, a U.K. based food awareness group has praised the shirt for raising awareness to veganism.
“We love Topshop’s ‘vegan dino’ T-shirts, despite the printing error on the label!” Jimmy Pierson, director of ProVeg U.K. told Fox News, “…these T-shirts show just how mainstream and popular veganism has become now it’s being printed on clothes sold in one of the most well-known fashion retailers in the world!”
A Topshop spokesperson told Fox News the label is featured on all clothing in the line and it has “nothing to do with what’s on the front of the T-shirt.”
Ironically, the publicity the ‘Vegan Dino’ shirt received has done wonders for Topshop. The shirt is currently sold out online.
