While soybeans are widely debated legumes, they are an excellent source of protein. So we got you a yummy recipe that includes this plant-based protein. Made from curdled soybean milk, tofu is pale white and resembles little blocks of paneer. It contains isoflavones that reduce harmful cholesterol levels in the body thus preventing cardiovascular diseases. Here’s what you will need to prepare the delicious wrap.
One teaspoon turmeric powder One teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper ½ teaspoon ground coriander 1/3 cup finely sliced tofu 2 cups coarsely chopped spinach One whole wheat tortilla One teaspoon canola oil One tablespoon water ¼ teaspoon salt The method of preparation
Take a medium sized bowl and mix the turmeric powder, coriander, red pepper flakes, black pepper and salt with water. Then add the tofu and toss for 3 to 4 minutes to cover it with the spice mixture. Take a non-stick skillet and place it over medium high heat. Heat the oil and add the tofu for 5 minutes until crisp. Then add the spinach and cook for a minute until the spinach is wilted. Remove the pan from the heat and place the tortilla over the spinach mixture. Spread the spinach and tofu mixture onto the tortilla and then fold up the sides. Tips to cook tofu
Make sure that you press the water out of the block of tofu before you start cooking. Also, keep the block between paper towels and place a bowl on top of it to drain the water out from it. Tofu disintegrates easily so saute it for less time and add it to your dish at the end. Also, remember to cut it into little chunks before adding it to your dish. Just make sure that you pick organic tofu to avoid consuming any soy product that has been genetically modified. You may also want to try this tandoori tofu and stir fried tofu with vegetables.
