Susan Owens’s idea of taking the crumb cake recipe of her mother, Marie Felice, to market has turned into a business success for both women, as well as for Ms. Owens’s daughter. Ms. Felice, nicknamed Nene, began baking in Paterson, N.J., with her own mother more than 50 years ago. The family now lives in Charleston, S.C., where it produces the cakes, which freeze well.
